Since “Raja Harishchandra” (1913) (the first Bollywood black-and-white silent film), the Bollywood film industry has stayed alive and was boosted by the “Golden Age” of Hindi films (the period from the late forties to the early sixties). In the 1930s, the Bollywood film industry was able to produce around two hundred films per year. The forties to the sixties, right after India’s independence, some of the classics Bollywood has to offer were made during this time; they showcase social themes at the time, like dealing with being a part of the working class while living an urban life.
Bollywood, like Hollywood, has a vibrant, long history that features aspects that are special to it, and have left their mark on anyone who has watched them ever since.
